The Beaujolais area of France, north of Lyon, is a land of pastures and green forests and is mostly famous for its superb Beaujolais wines. The vineyards run along on a narrow 60km strip of terraces on the bank of the River Saône and Chateau de Bagnols is located high in the hills surrounded by many of these vineyards. Beaujolais also produces many oils including olive oil, pecan nut oil, almond and pine kernel oil.

Beaujolais is also renowned for its honey-coloured chateaux, some of which are chateau hotels; the most wonderful of Beaujolais chateau hotels is, without question, Chateau de Bagnols from where all the attractions of the area are within easy reach.

An impressive selection of Michelin star restaurants are located within a short drive of Chateau de Bagnols providing some of the finest cuisine in France, complemented of course, by fine Beaujolais and Burgundy wines.

The Beaujolais Wine Trail is certainly worth following if you fancy a day of wonderful wines. The many caves in the Beaujolais open to visitors are quiet during the week, but lively on weekends, when people sit at wooden tables or bars tasting and discussing wines.

Horse riding, ballooning and cycling are also available allowing you to really admire the wonderful Beaujolais region.
